Here's 12 North East gems to close out 2024.
I am in and around Ouseburn for work, my favourite time to see it is in the autumn when the light hits every angle just right – the Ouseburn Viaduct is the perfect structure to see the light through.
The suburbs can become quite familiar, but the beauty of Blaydon is where it sits on the Tyne Valley – allowing you to see the suburbs from an entirely different perspective.
I think this was my favourite image that I have taken this year, it perfectly captures what I think we are all looking for, taking in a breathtaking view and having someone to experience it with.
As I am often in Ouseburn, I am actively looking at ways to capture the area from a new angle, this captures the rich shipping heritage of the area from a new perspective.
Nothing beats a sunset, and it’s hard to argue there is a view better than the Newcastle Quayside as the sleeping sun goes down against the outlines of the river’s famous bridges.
The coasts along the North East are one of its many selling points, even when the grey cold weather rolls in – but there is always the brave few that endure to get out and do what they love.
2024 was my first visit to Sycamore Gap since the untimely felling of the tree, and though the landscape doesn’t look like it once did, the beauty is still very much present.
Teesside is the North East’s home of industry, being swept over with modernisation – this shot of the Transporter Bridge perfectly captures the past moving into the present.
A big part of my 2024 has been seeing Newcastle’s Central Motorway at a gridlock as the Tyne Bridge gets its makeover – this shows that even in the most frustrating times, a dash of mist can make for a beautiful scene.
Roseberry Topping has brought great inspiration this year, whether it is watching people enjoy the sprawling landscape or from afar, Roseberry Topping truly stands out as a jewel of our landscape.
With all the North East’s sprawling hills and landscapes, taking a break is a need – but even in the downtime, it’s the perfect time to just take it all in.
2024 gave me a great opportunity to walk 30km of the North Yorkshire Coastal Path from Whitby up to Saltburn – I saw many different sights and landscapes along the way, but my favourite came on the top of Skinningrove, as the sun began to fade and set on our epic journey.
